Troubleshooting steps:
a) Try activating the
site collection feature "Open Documents in Client Applications by
Default" to force your documents to open on your machine.
b) Check to see if
your settings are configured to allow documents to be opened in browser.
c) Another thing you
could check is IE- make sure you're using the 32-bit version.
d) Try changing
browser file handling settings for web app under Central admin site. (Default
value is strict. Try changing to Permissive)
e) Use different
browser. May be Mozilla Firefox
f) Use different login
on your client machine (Not SharePoint login, machine from where you are
accessing SharePoint site)
g) Use different
machine
h) Are the word
documents .doc or .docx? must be docx to open via web.
i) Verify if you using
the office web apps for SharePoint 2013
j) If you ever get the
error “Word experienced an error trying to open the file” or any other error
messages while opening the word documents on the SharePoint 2013/2010, it may
be because your Office 2010/2013 protected view is enabled
Note:
there is a known issue if you have Office 2010 and Office 2013 installed on the
same computer.
